2. NISSAN TRAM FACE - SQUAW VALLEY (USA)

Mecca for Big Mountain skiing in the USA, perched atop the Sierra Nevada, the Californian resort of Squaw Valley will host the second stop of the Freeride World Tour 2009 on its granite-laden terrain. For the first time in history, the legendary Tram Face will be officially open for pro skiers. Closed since the resort opened in 1949, the Tram Face gave a hell of a morning to some rare skiers trying to ski Tram Face illegally in the past. The mountain is visible from the resort, so no doubt many skiers will make it to Squaw on the contest day.

The Squaw Valley Ski Resort in Olympic Valley, is one of the largest and most high-concept ski areas in the United States, and was the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. The resort attracts 600,000 skiers a year.

3. NISSAN FREERIDE DE TIGNES (FRANCE)

Tignes, the Kingdom of Freeriding:

The fourth contest of the Freeride World Tour will take place at one of the world’s biggest ski domains; “Espace Killy” – including Tignes and its surroundings. This vast area is one of the greatest freeriding domains to be found. The contest will be held at the Grande Balme legendary slopes. A number of freeride contests have already been seen on this thrilling mountain, a favourite spot for the local professionals, like freeride hero Guerlain Chicherit, 4-time freeride skiing world champion.

The Grande Balme is a 45 minute hike from the cable car and you will have a challenging 500 metres, 45 degrees slope below your feet. The face is located right in the middle of the Tignes domain and very accessible for the public. One chair lift ride from the village Val Claret and you have the massive face just in front of you. In 2007 around 5000-6000 spectators saw the freeride contest of Tignes from the foot of the face.

4. NISSAN XTREME - VERBIER 09 (SWITZERLAND)

Since its start in 1996 the “Xtreme” has been considered the most prestigious event in the freeride world. For the “grande finale” of the Freeride World Tour the elite of freeride will tackle the mythical North Face of the Bec des Rosses, a dauntingly steep and frighteningly jagged 500m rock-face.

The Bec des Rosses presents in places some 55 degrees sheer slopes. In an upright position one could nearly lean on the face with one's elbow. With steep and narrow couloirs, high rock cliffs, changing snow and terrain, it asks the riders to be particularly skilled with top physical condition, thorough mountain experience, and top placements in the previous contests.
